Announcing Pieter Prickaerts as CarePay's new CEO

The Supervisory Board of CarePay International is pleased to announce the appointment of Pieter Prickaerts as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CarePay International. Pieter will officially take over the position on July 1st, 2024, gradually assuming responsibilities from Kees van Lede over the past months. After nine years of service, Kees will step down as CEO, but, as one of the co-founders of the company, will remain closely involved with the CarePay group in an advisory capacity.

Pieter Prickaerts

Pieter has been with the CarePay group since 2019, first as Customer Success Director, and since 2023, as Managing Director of M-TIBA, the company's subsidiary in Kenya. In these roles, Pieter played a pivotal role in scaling CarePay's technology in Kenya, making health insurance more accessible and affordable for Kenyans. Before joining CarePay, Pieter worked at McKinsey & Company across various geographies.

Digitizing the healthcare journey

The CarePay platform connects individual members to payers and providers in the healthcare ecosystem. The cloud-based technology manages patient payments and information flows in real-time, with the individual member at the center.

As all transactions and related information flows are handled in real-time in the cloud, administration costs are lowered drastically. Through the use of automation and AI technology, hospitals can be paid faster, which lowers healthcare costs substantially. The real-time connection with the individual further increases transparency, reduces fraud and enhances the member & patient experience.

So far, more than 4,8 million people and over 5,000 healthcare providers have been connected to the platform, as CarePay is preparing for expansion to other countries. In 2019 CarePay raised 40 million EUR in our Series A. Additionally,CarePay was listed in the top 10 of Fortune's 500 'Change the World' index in 2020.

Pieter: "The transformative impact of technology on health administration is largely unexplored, whilst worldwide healthcare costs continue to increase year on year. Across Sub-Saharan Africa, typically less than 10-15% of the population has access to some form of health insurance, confirming the urgent need to increase access for the millions of people who are currently underserved. I look forward to growing our business across our regions to support the worldwide transformation of healthcare. I would like to thank the board and management for their trust in appointing me as CEO, effective 1st July."

Onno Schellekens (chairman of the Supervisory Board of CarePay International): ‘I would like to thank Kees for his contributions and commitment to bringing CarePay to its current stage. As one of the founding members since 2015, Kees laid the foundation by building a great team, who enrolled millions of members and providers and demonstrated the value of CarePay’s technology through real use cases. We are happy that Kees will remain closely involved with CarePay to ensure a smooth and efficient transition. The board has full confidence in Pieter to guide CarePay to the next level, given his track record within CarePay and beyond.”

International growth

In his new role as CEO of CarePay International, Pieter will continue to oversee operations in Kenya while driving the international expansion of CarePay’s proven technology. In this mission to offer more people access to healthcare worldwide, Pieter will be supported by his strong and diverse management team.
